>From the Strib, today over at the Legislature. We learn that the House Transportation Finance Committee is expected to approve a bill today that does some rather unpleasant things: > bill also would cancel a $19 million appropriation > authorized last year for a dedicated busway running > from St. Paul to the Minneapolis-St. Paul > International Airport > The governor asked for $30 million in additional > funding for transit in the metro area. The House > bill provides $8 million. "We have severely cut > metro transit," said Rep. Alice Hausman, DFL-St. Paul [TB] The Governors budget was rather bare bones. To chop out mass transit is a poor idea. But it gets worse .. > The bill also would: Forbid Minneapolis from > adopting any zoning ordinance that would force the > closing or relocation of commercial and industrial > activities along the upper harbor of the Mississippi > River, an area the city has marked for housing > development. [TB] Geezzz dont we have local government to decide local zoning issues? Ill be the first to agree that we have more units of local government than we need or is anywhere near efficent, but Minneapolis is the largest municipality in the state. I dont think the City of Roseau would like the state coming in and doing local zoning, I see no justification for the Legislature doing it here either.
