Unfortunately, the sites don't give me an idea as to who is
providing bandwidth. There are some interesting technical challenges to
this idea that make it... interesting to us tech-heads.
One of the problems is that Mineapolis isn't as topographically
interesting as Seattle, so line-of-sight is actually more of a problem.
If someone can string an access-point to the old TV-Antenna on the roof of
their 2.5 storie house, that would be good. Strap a commercial AP to roof
and paint it to look like a roof-vent, and voila. Or see if you can con a
local HAM to allow some antenna space...
I also have 802.11b set up at home, and darn is it nifty. Took
the laptop with me to a conference recently where they had the
convention-center wired for wireless, and I was checking websites speakers
were tossing during sessions, live. The problem is the standard isn't a
terribly good one for Municipal Area Networks.
