The Metropolitan Council is pleased to announce the appointment of John Haley, Jr. to the position of General Manager of Metro Transit effective June 11, 2001. John and his family will relocate from Jamaica Plain, Mass., where they are currently residing. John is a transit professional who brings extensive transportation and management experience to the job. Over the past 15 years, John has been involved in multiple aspects of bus and rail operations in the midwest, eastern seaboard and west coast, including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and San Francisco. He served as general manager of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the deputy general manager of San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, and deputy general manager of New Jersey Transit Rail Operations. He also served as the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation. John is no stranger to the Twin Cities region. Most recently, as an independent consultant, John worked with a number of public sector clients, including Metro Transit. Through that work, he had the opportunity to learn first hand about the strength of our regional transit system here, the successes and challenges facing Metro Transit; as well as the highly acclaimed quality of life we have here. John's work in the areas of capital investment and construction, technology, customer service and operational performance and safety is a good match for Metro Transit and the Council as we expand bus system capacity, continue to build ridership and open the Hiawatha light rail line. His expertise in transportation and transit will be valuable as we work with communities to make smart growth choices for the future. _______________________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - Minnesota E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
