Great points, David Piehl.

Not just a crackhouse, but what about Meth labs? Not too long ago there
was a Meth lab found in a Comfort Inn in the burbs.

My other concern about this is the involvement of the Urban Vultures.
Ralph Bruins at Urban Ventures has been proposing a Hotel in this area for
a long time. Time after time it was voted down in the Business
Developement meeting. Sabri claims that Bruins has talked him into the
hotel. It also seems while this Motel scheme is on the table (as an
empowerment zone project to boot), other uses for this land aren't being
discussed.

There will be a meeting tonight to discuss the Hotel.

Council Member Herron has organized a meeting for neighbors to discuss this
Motel scheme. Here are the details:

This is a reminder for all about the meeting on Thursday May 3 at
Urban Ventures from 6p.m. - 9 p.m. Brian Herron has organized this
meeting to offer a venue for all to discuss and share their thoughts
on a zoning change and possible building of a hotel at this site.

This meeting was organized after the CNIA Business Development Meeting that
discussed the motel. Many at the CNIA Business Developement Meeting felt
they didn't have a chance to offer their concerns about the Motel.

Urban Ventures is on the southwest corner of 31 and 4th av. S. The
building says "Central Community Church" on the outside.

Both Wizard Marks and Basim Sabri have mentioned that opposition to the
Motel is racist (Sabri), or racist and classist because the initial NRP
plan for this area didn't include study of disparate impact on different
racial/ethnic groups. I've never quite understood how this was racist or
classist? What is racist or classist about wanting to live in a lower
crime neighborhood?

I hope at the end of this meeting, we get a clear statement from Council
Member Herron regarding what he is going to do about this issue. I hope he
decides to represent the neighborhood even this makes things a bit ticklish
with a major fundraiser for him, Basim Sabri. 8th ward candidate, Robert
Lilligren's position on this issue is quite clear.
