I could write thousdans of words of my personal past four days leading up
to this convention and I could probably write a book about the day's
activities.
I want to thank those people who publicly and privately supported me. Rick
Stafford did but his neck, heart and soul out there just as I did. We both
took risks in our day's actions. And thank you to Michale Krause who many
people know we have had some personal issues in our past couple of years.
And my apologies to some of my most favorite people in the whole world
these past 12 years - especially Michelle St. Martin, Jonathan Norburg,
Mark Wallem and Joyce Mason. I am not gone forever and I promise I will
not vote for Norm Coleman for Senator.

But most important thank you to you all and the wonderful thoughts, wishes
and words many of you shared with me. I am a teacher, an educatior and
organizer - lots of organizing was going on today and I think lots of us
made each other proud of the many things that we can each highlight from
the day.

As most of you know, it was never part of my campaign strategy to have the
delegate, Zev Aelony speak to the chair's ruling and if I had orchestrated
it I would never have done it at that point in time.
But that is all said and done, almost everyone is sleeping and praying for
good weather tomorrow so we can all be happy and celebrate the coming of
Spring at our beloved May Day Festival and Parade and the next great six
months we get to enjoy our city.

And for your bedtime enjoyment I am inserting:
THE SPEECH YOU NEVER HEARD....
Thank you all - I really ended up having a great day when all is said and
done!

DFL CITY CONVENTION REMARKS
Thank you.

I am Annie Young. I am a citywide at-large Minneapolis Park Board
Commissioner.

I wish I could remember who once said:
"The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is
to say Thank You. In between the leader is a servant."
And it is so true.

The reality is this city is a tree city - a beautiful city with parks,
lakes, and a grand river. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
oversees 6300 acres covering 10 square miles and an annual budget of
$50million dollars for operations with an additional $10million in capital
funds. It is the Number ONE park system in America - a product of an
independent Park Board, by and for the citizens of Minneapolis and their
friends.

I have been a public servant, serving YOU, the citizens of Minneapolis,
these past 12 years - eight of those endorsed by this convention. My
citywide perspective comes from working in all parts of the city during the
past 20 years of my residency plus having visited every single park in our
system several times during my tenure. I strongly believe in our
neighborhood parks and all types of programs for all the citizens, new
immigrants, seniors and especially, the youth. I have provided
environmental leadership to the Park Board.

I want to sincerely thank you for the great opportunity you have given me
to serve the city and for your support in the past. I enjoy working with
many of you on current projects. Although I am not seeking your
endorsement today I plan to see you out on the campaign trail this summer
as I continue to seek your support in this non-partisan race.

You can vote Young for Parks to insure there is a watchful eye looking out
for the FUTURE of these great parks and lakes in our City as I continue to
run in the primary and general elections.

Thank You.
Have a good convention.

Leave and wave goodbyesmile
