There was a proposal put forward by Ms. McDonald regarding the shifting of
CDBG funds away from "adminstrative" costs of the City to affordable housing
projects. A question was raised as to what were those funds being used for
currently. I did list the departments receiving CDBG funds as part of their
operating budget.
I have received several questions regarding the funds I listed as going to
the Communications Department. I wanted to clarify that the community
grants program is part of the Communications Department for budget purposes.
These funds are used to provide small grants to a number of non-profit
organizations. These organizations include the Minnesota Aids Project,
Harriet Tubman Shelter, the Greater Minneapolis Day Care Association and
many other organizations. CDBG funds are not used for communications
progams at the City.
