I was the coordinator for the Twelfth Ward for the Sayles Belton Campaign.
And I cannot speak to the rest of the wards. I can say in my ward, we had a
poor turnout, less than half of what we had for the 12th Ward Council
endorsement. And I can speak to why because I talked to my delegates who
didn't show. Most did so because they didn't think the Mayor was going to
have any problem so they didn't feel they needed to show up. For them, it
was a no-brainer as to the best candidate. The problem was that too many
people felt that way and instead worked on their gardens or went on
vacations or had dinner parties instead of sitting for twelve hours in a
gymnasium. Which is a fairly sane response, given the alternative of
sitting in a gymnasium for twelve hours. For all the folks reading the
opposite into the no-endorsement, I would spend the time to speak to some of
the delegates who didn't feel the urgency to show up. I have.

I would say that the Rybak folks did have good floor management. Congrats
to Mr. Niland on the excellent floor organization.

For the person who wrote in saying that anyone who would do a convention of
this type is an extremist, I would have to agree.

PS. To Mr. Peterson talking about the "palatial suites" of the Belton
campaign, we had one small room, two folding tables and six chairs,
including the two used by persons with disabilities. The luxury? Must have
been the bag of licorice someone brought because that was the only luxury
there.
