I stopped by the unofficial unveiling of Basim Sabri's alternative plan for
the No Ho-Tel site. The proposal was two mixed use housing/business
buildings along 2nd Ave. The plan would involve two properties that
Sabri doesn't currently own: Corrine Zala's house on the corner of 31 and
2nd, and David Corral's house next to that. Press was there: Steve Brandt
of the Star Tribune, Burl Gilyard from City Pages. Council Member Brian
Herron ran this meeting (very well again).

The feedback folks gave Sabri was: have a plan for land that he
owns--rather than planning for property he doesn't own. The general idea
-- mixed housing/business sounds like just what the neighborhood wants.

Joseph Barisonzi from the Lyndale Community Development Corp also stopped
by. He is interested in getting the AmericInn on the Nicollet and Lake
(when Nicollet is opened up). Basim Sabri and Barisonzi are discussing
this.
