In my opinion, one of the reasons Dean Kalmbach and others
won Stonewall DFL's endorsements is because of their deep
understanding and support of gay issues. For example, the gay
community is a broad one and some rather diverse groups sometimes get
lumped together by run off the mill politicos. Dean distinguished
himself from the pack because he understood stuff like the subtle
differences between intersex, transgender, and transsexual folk.

I don't know whether folks agree with dyna or not, but I'm wondering how much
weight most people think such admittedly "subtle" differences should make in
a City Council race ( I'm speaking generally - not about Dean or any other
specific candidate) where only a few of the issues CM's will face have to do
with GLBT gender politics, but many, many issues have to do with complex
finance and development choices, land use, environmental concerns, and
provision of basic municipal services.
