With a 4 way race and traditionally low turnout, this primary
race will be difficult to call. With maybe 20,000 votes or less
needed to survive the primary, victory will go to the candidates that
best turn out their base.

        My prognostications, worth about $.02:

Sharon Sayles Belton- Gets the minority vote if it turns out. City
employees and labor may be enough to keep her in the race.

Lisa McDonald- no base beyond her ward, and even a half million $$$
won't convert and drag out primary voters. Should beat Disney and
Franson though.

R.T. Rybak- Has strong support on the southside among greens and
progressives, who will turn out in high enough numbers to send him on
to the general.

Mark Steinglein- Base is limited to the old white northside machine
that Derus tapped. Much of that constituency has either moved to the
'burbs or passed on to the great precinct caucus in the sky. Could
pull an upset and survive to the general though if he can maintain
his teflon coating.

        peace.
