The DSL/water billing thread quickly makes the pages of the Pioneer
Press...that's responsiveness!

In addition to bulldog reporter David Hawley (who began making calls within
an hour of my original post), I'd really like to thank the city staffers -
including Vaman Pai and Ramon Morales -- who called me to follow through on
the situation. They responded to my problem without defensiveness, and
worked diligently to identify solutions. The only thing I'm unclear about
after reading David's story is whether the city and Qwest will get together
and make sure DSL self-installers know to add DSL filters on their water
meters. It would be a shame to keep making people schedule repair
appointments and waste employees' time all for a repair they can make
themselves. But the city employees left me with the impression the need will
be communicated to self-installers.

I realize there are many, many bigger problems in Minneapolis than this.
Still, I'm really proud the forum had something to do with this. We'll save
some city installation employees some needless calls and the taxpayers some
money, plus reducing estimated-bill headaches for residents. I'm a huge
believer that lots of little problems solved by small acts of citizenship
can add up to something big someday.

Anyway, this is a fine example of members, media, and city employees working
together...and it's not the first time this has happened, only the most
recent. (And for the record, I did NOT called David or his editor - they
read it here just like you.)

This was a gas to be a part of.
