I realize that few on this list might agree, but I'll
throw this out for the list to consider.

One of the acts of Congress under Newt was to create
an exemption on capital gains for owner occupied real
estate. This does more for Minneapolis' housing stock
than anything I can think of. A house on my block was
bought by a woman who rehabbed houses for a living.
She replaced the plumbing, fixed the roof, replaced a
couple windows, updated the electrical system, and
then resold the house.

disclaimer - I am not supporting Mark Stenglein or any
other mayoral candidate.

Rich Chandler - Ward 9

=====
From: David Brauer
Mark told me that his brother was especially gung-ho
about Gingrich in '92, and that Mark and four brothers
and sisters agreed to chip in $50 each - Mark wrote
the $250 check.

While the Gingrich contribution is a litmus test for
me, I think Stenglein owes it to the rest of the
voters to stop playing the affable ex-drunk and speak
directly to a larger issue: does he regret giving
Gingrich money? That would give voters a clue to his
current thinking.
