Better late than never ... Nellie in poor health is an understatement- she
is past 90 - my goodness, that is a miracle in itself. Best to honor and
love her while she can feel and hear it. IMHO, it doesn't do much good
after one is dead and gone!
Bringing more history to our schools and communmity - there is never enough
thanks to go around for those that make history, but let us start by saying
thank you to Nellie for all the things she has taught us over the years.
Maybe she should be the Honorary Mayor for a day on the Northside on
Juneteenth at the parade and festival.

A proud new name...
In other news, the school board voted to name a new school after local
activist Nellie Stone Johnson.
The school, formerly Broadway Community School, will move to a new building
at 807 27th Av. N. and
will be called Nellie Stone Johnson School.
Johnson, a longtime resident of north Minneapolis, is said
to be in poor health. She has been nationally recognized for her work in
education and her leadership on civil rights, workers' rights, and
women's rights.
