I have to agree with those on the list who are asking for changes before we move
ahead with raising taxes for the MCDA.
I think we not only need to look carefully at how the Planning Dept., MCDA and
NRP relate and how to better integrate or coordinate all three, but also at the
complete picture when it comes to taxes and services. I am concerned that we can
be cutting basic service in many areas and then focusing on raising revenue for
the some development projects without a good comprehensive vision.
Before we determine how best to restructure the MCDA, the NRP and the Planning
Dept. I think we need to agree that it is time for restructuring. This has been
and will be an issue I will raise during my campaign and I hope others will do
it as well.
Now is the time to raise the issue, begin exploring options, and engaging the
public in the discussion. This is not the time to rush to raise money because
we don't have enough to fund business as usual.
