Whew! The Greens have learned their political lessons very well in a very
short period of time. For 45 minutes today my life in politics since 14
years old passed before my very eyes. Controversy and all.

I also missed some parts of the convention to go out campagining at some
neighborhood events so also don't know all the numbers.
On the School Board race - 56 votes cast:
Freeman Wicklund
                        48 for endorsement
                         8 NOTA
Frank Zaragoza
                        42 votes for endorsement
                        14 NOTA

3rd Ward race - 71 ballots cast
Brother Shane Price 52 with 2/3 for endorsement
                (don't know other numbers)

Never-the-less the day was exciting and filled with political intrique - no
different than the internal happenings within each of the political parties
in America (major or minor).
And although I don't know all the numbers I do know that they were
impressive and decisive about who they endorsed. I don't think we'll ever
know if the Preference Voting worked (but it was a great practice run for
explaining and attempting it) - the only time of a second ballot was on the
Mayoral endorsement which ended up 31 votes for RT and 31 votes for
NOTA(none of the above).
And the Greens had their own Charlie Disney (of DFL/Republican fame)in
Jeffrey Booty with the wonderful exception that he was a delightful
character and had some good observations and solutions to some of the
city's issues. He helped lighten the load a little in the midst of one of
the most intense moments in The Minneapolis Green Party short history.
Another mindful note is that in 1997 I was endorsed by the Minneapolis
Green Party with about 10 people present. This year I received 81% of the
vote - 75 votes were cast. Not only that but there was an audience: the
curious, the press, and people who were interested in the direction of the
now 2nd major political party in Minneapolis.
That is growth, that is grassroots democracy in action and watch out
Minneapolis, the Greens will be out in full regalia this summer - with
grassroots campaigns and using plain old- fashion methods of reaching out
to the people. Feel free to join in the politics of joy and justice, summer
2001. We're goinig to work hard and have a good time doing it.

Proud to help carry the Green Party flag this summer.
