Three related comments:
1. Protecting the library's employees while protecting people's first
amendment rights is a challenge but it is doable. We did it with
Minneapolis Telecommunications Network when I was Board Chair there.
* It takes listening to the employees.
* It takes talking with employees.
* It takes pro active action by the board and management.
* It takes an understanding of the law. What is pornographic; what actions
are illegal.
* It takes working with the employees.
2. The Family Council is not advising the Minneapolis Library Board of
Trustees. They are an interest group that doesn't believe the First
Amendment applies to anything.
3. It is my understanding that the Minneapolis Library is supporting the
challenge to the law that requires filters on computers connected to the
Internet. I'll check on that.
