Unfortunately Sheldon Mains left a little early so I did not see him at the
Celebration of Galveston, Texas slaves who found out they were free long
after the emancipation proclamation. The parade must have been great!

Jordan had a clean sweep with a limited amount of community volunteers so we
had to put a little more time in than anticipated. Junteenth along with
many of the community celebrations are acknowledgements of accomplishments
celebrated by those who understand the importance of the celebration. While
running for any elected office, one must be a part of the celebration not
suck from the bone marrow of spirit. Randall Robinson speaks of a
rejection disorder in which many people benefit from when targeting the
African American community. Fortunately, many are not as naive as they seem.
Elected officials should make it to many events to let people know their
options, however one march in one parade does not constitute emersion into
any community nor commitment to it.

Commitment comes with the not so glamorous neighborhood meetings, listening,
researching and follow up with those who are looking for an answer or have
an answer.
