Robert replies:

Suppose information came to your attention about your family, information
thought to be totally lost.
Suppose this information after much research was found to be true, is it any
less valid, because it was lost?
My point is this, a historical marker was placed at Camp Coldwater in 1990 or
1991. Camp Coldwater is where the army stayed while they built Fort Snelling, as
I like to tell people it didn't just float down out of the clear blue!
I had no idea it was there, the city never said boo about Camp Coldwater, the
federal land it is on is almost always locked up.
And yet we're faulted for knowing nothing about it.....that's very bizarre.

As far as the four trees are concerned, there would never be any way to prove
their sacredness to the government.
A government, a people that hold money above all else.
The people who know this area to be sacred were only "legally" allowed to
practice their religion after 1978.
Much knowledge was lost between the end of the Dakota Conflict of 1862 and 1998.
After 1862, no Dakota were going to say anything to rock the boat.
But then just magically in our "white minds" we can fault them for not saying
anything earlier......
The Dakota as well as other tribes kept places like these secret for fear of
what the white man would do.
Can you see it from their side?

The houses that stood on Riverview Road, well, little did we know we would have
an affordable housing shortage a couple of years later.
But Earth First! thought it was a good idea, you remember the idea of saving
something you may need in the future.
Or maybe your children may need these resoures in the future, but this I fear
will never fully make it into the consciousness
of the average Minnesotan.

At some point you will all drive 55, we won't let you forget.
