I appreciate the article and the issues it
brought up but I thought I read that Carol had
not accepted but was considering the "new"
contract with Minneapolis. The "new" contract
extends her contract one year and added $30,000
to her salary. When I read that I wondered if
she was considering honoring her current contract
with Minneapolis and then possibly considering
moving "back home" to Tennessee.
I don't think we should fault Carol for an
"accepted" practice in her field of work. If we
are having an issue with the practice, I think it
would be good to address that issue and work to
change it to something we feel more comfortable.
It is interesting to me that we did not hear this
argument while Nashville was courting Carol.
I think Dr. Johnson has taught students in
Minneapolis and around the country a very good
lesson about the consequences of a good
education, and good work ethics. She has quietly
worked to upgrade our seriously suffering K-12
educational system despite serious tax cuts and
other political issues that plague the
educational system. I think the students can see
that the consequences of serious work DOES get
noticed and rewarded.
