I actually agree with Matthea on this one. (It's not often that I can say
that about one of her posts, and not often she can say that about mine).
High level public sector jobs tend to pay more poorly than similar private
sector jobs.

Jason Lewis was ranting on and on about Carol Johnson's big raise last
night. He's all for people making big salaries in the private sector, but
doesn't seem to want the public sector to be able to pay professionals
competitively.

I read Catherine Shreves' commentary about Johnson:

However, I'd take issue with this:

Far-right Republican voices, led by Bill Cooper and his candidate for
governor, Brian Sullivan, reinforce the governor's drumbeat. Their
relentless agenda: vouchers. They offer attack ads about public education,
comparing Ascension School in north Minneapolis to Hall Elementary, a north
Minneapolis public school, asking: Why can't Minneapolis get the same high
test scores as Ascension when it spends more money?

------------------------------------------
Bill Cooper is active in the Republican Party, but he is not the Chair of
the party now, and does not speak for the party. As Terrell Brown pointed
out on this list before, with his annecdote about Cooper's perceptions
about the safety of the Minneapolis streets, the guy has never been known
for having much of a clue. If the Republican Party of Minnesota continues
to follow the Cooper agenda, it will be an agenda that will leave them
without a Governor and Senate candidate. Recall that Bill Cooper also said
about Norm Coleman "he's dead, he just doesn't know it yet." The
Republican Party in Minneapolis endorsed a moderate and hard working
candidate for 10th ward city council. At LCR/MN's last meeting in June,
members voted unanamously to endorse Shirley Carlson based on her answers
to the LCR/MN screening questionaire, and on the way she answered questions
from the membership during the meeting.
