Invitations for a public forum have gone out from the highrise resident
councils at Lynway Manor (2415 N. 3rd St.) and Lowry Towers (315 Lowry
Ave. N.) to the four known candidates (Makeda Zulu-Gillespie, Valdis
Rozentals, Brother Shane Price, and Joe Biernat) seeking election to the
Third Ward City Council seat currently occupied by incumbent Joe
Biernat. This forum, co-sponsored by the Minneapolis Urban League, is
scheduled for Thursday, July 27, 2001 at 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, at 2415 N.
3rd St. - Lynway Manor. A buffet will be at 6:00 pm.

The invitation reads in part: "We welcome your participation in this
forum so residents can hear your views on subjects of particular
importance to them and can become better informed voters before the
November election. We expect at least 100 residents and leaders to
attend the Forum. These residents are taking an increasingly active part
in envisioning and creating their own future communities, and they are
eager to know how the candidates for city council of the Third Ward can
assist them in bringing about positive changes in their housing and
surrounding neighborhoods."

Federal rules require uniform rules about candidate inclusion and the
presence of at least two candidates. The invitation establishes that all
candidates who have filed by the July 17th deadline will be welcome to
participate and I'll be happy to inform the list when the two-candidate
rule has been satisfied.

Fred Markus, Horn Terrace, Ward Ten
