It costs roughly a million dollars per sweep. Assuming we don't sweep in
the winter, say November, December, January, February, and March, and we
have two sweeps already, that leaves roughly $5 million additional needed to
meet the goal of one sweep a month. Mr. Steinglen has also said that he
does not want to raise taxes. It would be helpful if he would say what
services the City was currently spending this $5 million on that are
unnecessary.

I also have to say that having traveled to other major cities, Minneapolis
is one of the cleanest cities I have been in. Our garbage policy of picking
everything up without charging for it, the garbage carts as opposed to
individual garbage cans, the aggressive enforcement, all results in a very
clean city.
