Mr. Chandler asked,
Will these be based out of MSP?
>Anyone know how loud they are?
Yes they will ALL be based out of Minneapolis as NWA has purchased Empire
Airways (not Airlines) A company with bombardier jets, they also purchase
new from canada. It could be the largest feeder airline in the US, as it
combines with northwest airlink. Quite a hustle, doubling their size in June
and you all just finding out on opening day. I went on an interview in May
and they are paying the lousey wage I made in a factory (Mc Donnell Douglas)
in 1989, $34K.
Noise? well not like a rumbling 727 more the quieter high pitched "biz jet"
whine of a BMW/RR engine or a pratt & whitney like on the Canadair
Challenger. I expect the take off noise to be MUCH quieter than any existing
commercial jet. The landing noise barely noticeable from indoors. 17 years
on tarmacs and in planes, I am a little hard of hearing tho.
I just want to say that Minnesota has not 1 commecrcial repair faciliy (1000
jobs) and does not allow contracting on airport property. This is due to
MAC's deathgrip, and unreasonable expansion logic. i.e. You cannot replace
an old building (crystal airport) or hang a sign. These are strange anti
expansion practices. A repair station, 5 hangar bays, adds up to
approxamatly 40 take offs and 40 landings A YEAR. It gives over 1000 jobs
and brings in $50 million. Throw some money at that! Northwest farms out
many of their transition programs and maintenance work to other states. We
could keep the money here and cut down on flights. We would also dive into
the national and international market of aircraft REPAIR. With this you
would get a dominoe effect; 2000 jobs in support, machine shops, tooling,
welders, building contractors, on and on. L.A., St Louis, Witchata, Salt
Lake City are all good examples of this.
Some serious backwards thinking in aviation up here and you have "the right
stuff", its a shame.
