Greetings! My name is Chistopher Bryant, and I am a candidate for 6th Ward City Councilman.
You might ask, as I myself would; What makes me different
from any other candidate or politician? Basically! I am just like many
of you, a hard working tax paying citizen who has a desire to serve the
community and the city. If your looking for
someone who will tell you what you want to hear just
to get your vote; Im not that person!
Although I grew up up as a democrat, I have found myself,
adrift without a party that truly serves the masses. I have never
met a democrat who doesn't have a million dollar solution
to all social problems, nor a replublican who can't find a tax
break to solve those same problems. Neither work long
term. Remember "Trickle Down Economics"! I have filed as a
independent, and I am quite comfotable in that role.
I would like to commit myself to being a person who is going to
balance my views and votes(If Elected)based on (1)Being
informed(2)Having facts(3)Consultation with constituents(4)What
can or should the city's role be in a given problem or
issue. I think I will bring some very "Out Of The Box" thinking
into Council deliberations, as I have when I worked with
resident's of the Public Housing sector.
My main theme, is "Improving Minnneapolis City Government
Core Values"; investing more in our city infrastructure,
developing a more equaitable system of allocation of
resources to the vaious wards to meet their needs. Putting a cap on
TIF spending. I understand the the theory, and I am not
opposed to TIF in a broad sense, however, I still look upon it
as deficit spending. I would like to tackle the "Affordable
Housing Crisis" by involving a as many people, developer's,
the Met Council, local and state leader's, so we can
do more than simply talk about; Its Time To Do Something!
If your a homeowner concerned about property taxes, crime,
traffic, city services; You have my attention! If your a
business owner concerned about taxes, cutting through
government red tape or creating an envionment where you can
provide quality services or products, receive a fair
return on your investment, and attract quality people at living wage
jobs; You have my attention! If your a parent concerned
about your childrens activities in parks, after school program,
safety, and the city's efforts to keep children "In School",
"Drug Free", and "Safe"; you have my attention.
If elected, I will be doing alot of neighborhood "Walk
N' Talk", not because have to, but because its time to return
to a placei n our past, where we actually knew, talked
to, and could meet informally with our leader's. My mandate is
your mandate! In any company or organization, you must
have teamwork. As Hillary Clinton spoke of in her book,
It Takes a Village To Raise A Child; so too a city! We
have to work together; identifying problems, and prioritizing
practical, logical, and affordable solutions. Thank You
