I thought about this for a while.  I think that the first part of Mr.
Fyksen's response to MA (I'm sorry I can't remember your last name now)
was pretty right on.  He called him on a lot of nonsense that was being
said.  The second part... not so good.  It present muslims as a static,
unified body of people within its premises.  The simple fact is that
muslims are a diverse group.  There are muslim feminists, communists, etc.
as well as conservatives.   The simple fact is that muslims number in the
millions and aren't clones of each other.  Muslims tend to be one of the
last cultural groupings where this type of thinking is still acceptable
withn liberal circles.  People interested in this should look into Edward
Said's work on the issue (Orientalism, Covering Islam, along with many
smaller articles).  I think that it is reasonable to confront MA as A
muslim and it's clear that his interpretation of Islam is important to
him, but it is equally unreasonable to posit him as the representative of
even the muslims within the community.
