Loki, for the record, I am NOT Robert Lilligren's spokesperson. When I
post to the list, I am speaking for myself. Messages that are sent from
the Lilligren campaign have always been clearly identified as such.
However, Loki, I think it is unfair for me to lump all DFLers into the "DFL
machine".
Robert Lilligren is fully capable of speaking for himself on this list, and
has done so on numerous occassions. He also has participated on a regular
basis on Central chat. Vickie Brock has posted once on this list, and as I
recall, the post wasn't a substantive discussion of her positions on the
issues that affect the ward. It would be refreshing if she would be
willing to jump in and join us in this forum, and share in her own words
why people should vote for her to represent us in the 8th ward.
Robert Lilligren did win the primary -- and commandingly so for a four way
primary. It doesn't mean his campaign can rest on its laurels if he wants
to win in November. Robert won in the primary without the standard type
stuff -- Union endorsements, endorsements by other office holders.
I'm glad to see the precinct reports available on the city website. It
would be nice to also have the city scan in the campaign finance reports
and make those available on the website also.
Regarding Dyna's comments about the 6th and 8th ward races:
This was the most unpredictable race on the card. Dean Z is a
proven votegetter and leads the race without breaking a sweat. Dean
Kallenback will pick up much of Barb's and Shada"s vote making this a
close race to the finish in November. Dishonorable mention goes to
Shada for shamelessly campaigning until poll closing if not after,
while other campaigns had stood down out of respect for the great
tragedy that befell our nation.
EY: I saw Shada perform at the Lucille's Kitchen debate and cannot imagine
why anyone would vote for her. She was just screaming at the audience
during that debate -- and it was really quite annoying. Shada's campaign
was purposely passing on inaccurate information about Barb Lickness being
in the pocket of Basim Sabri. It was too bad that a good candidate like
Barb Lickness got tarred with this -- I thought the coverage that put Barb
opposite Brian Herron particularly obnoxious.
Dyna continues:
Vickie's turning into a serious candidate, and may close the
gap. However, Robert will pick up some of Sandra's support which
could easily put him over 50%. Better turnout in the general will
help Vicky though.
==================================================
Vickie did better than expected -- my prediction on the list was Robert and
Sandra. What was interesting is the lawn sign count the Lilligren campaign
did pretty much mirrored the election results.
The Brock campaign dropped a letter from Senator Berglin and Dorrie Mead
that supported her campaign in the precincts she won. My guess is this
helped her in those wards.
I'd agree with the analysis here that Dick Johnson and labor lost in this
primary -- big time as they say. That doesn't mean that labor won't have
clout in this election though. Labor still CAN offer alot to candidates,
and I anticipate that candidates will do what they can to get some labor
endorsements.
