In Ward 6, the voter-rich precincts in Whittier (6-1,-2,-3,-7) and
Stevens Square (6-4) dominate the outcome.

SSB outpolled RT 486 to 411 in these five precincts but had no
coattails.

Shada Buyobe-Hammond outpolled both Dean Zimmermann and Dean Kallenbach
in 6-1 in southwest Whittier - a mixture of homeowners and renters - but
did poorly in the apartment blocks in 6-7 in northwest Whittier and in
Stevens Square (6-4). These precincts preferred Dean Zimmermann over
both Dean Kallenbach and Shada Buyobe-Hammond.

6-3 in northcentral Whittier went narrowly for Dean Kallenbach but was
more than overbalanced by Dean Zimmermann's win in 6-2, Dean
Kallenbach's home precinct, where Shada also outpolled the "hometown"
candidate. 6-2 is all of Whittier east of 1st Ave. and is dominated by
large apartment buildings.

In summary, renters in the voter-rich precincts west of I-35 preferred
Sharon but weren't much impressed by the flood of DFL sample ballots and
endorsements that Dean Kallenbach brought to their attention nor with
the sometimes strident tone taken by ACORN's candidate.

East of the freeway in Phillips (6-5,-8,-9,-10), the mayor outpolled RT
294 to 224.

Shada (212 votes) outpolled both Deans and Dean Zimmermann (185 votes)
did better than Dean Kallenbach (169 votes).

The public housing voters in 6-6 on the West Bank in Cedar-Riverside
preferred Sharon to RT 37 to 10. They voted for Dean Z (28 votes), then
Dean K (18 votes), then Shada (13 votes). Note also that Barb Lickness
came in first overall in 6-10 in southeast Phillips and second overall
in 6-1 (southwest Whittier) and in 6-8 (Ventura Village).

Not a promising outcome for the DFL's "favorite son". Assuming no change
in Tuesday's recount, we may be welcoming the Green Party's pride and
joy, Minneapolis Park Commissioner Dean Zimmermann, to a new elected
role. Remembering the tape over his mouth at the Sixth Ward's DFL
convention, the shouting claque of DFL stalwarts, and the busy mayor and
city council president at that event, the Sixth Ward's
independent-minded voters may give Mr. Zimmerperson and his party a
green light. Makes sense to me.
