I agree with some list members that the discussion focused around RT vs. Sharon in a terrorist attack is completely ludicrous. First of all, I think we saw an example of a completely flawed and beleagured mayor rise in the face of horror and tragedy. The fact is, we have absolutely no way of knowing, based on past history or record, just who would be the best person leading the city under attack, and I hope we never have to.
I don't understand why David Brauer thinks that RT needs to post his plan for a terrorist attack on, of all places, this list. Really, NO mayor could possibly put together such a plan without the input of fire, police, medical, FBI and military officials. For RT to be able to sit at his computer and try to do this is crazy. ("Let's see...first I'd call the police, then I'd call the fire department, then I should probably put the hospitals on alert...") Frankly, I'd be extremely concerned if he (or Belton) thought that they COULD do this all alone because that would be an ego problem that would extend into other areas of governance.
Besides, did it occur to anyone that this list is public and to post our city's security plan might, just might, be a really bad idea? I'm disappointed that Belton brought up the subject of a terrorist attack in the first place. I'd be even more disappointed if she or RT, in the interest of further advancing their political campaigns, would jeopardize city security by responding to these requests for information that, quite frankly, belong in the hands of city officials, police and fire personnel, the FBI, and our local hospitals.
I think that our city residents deserve to know whether or not we have a plan. But publicly posting such a plan is just outrageous. Why should anyone get a heads up so they can cut us off at the pass?
