mayor could possibly put together such a plan without the input of fire,
police, medical, FBI and military officials. <snip>
Wow. First I get blasted for suggesting everything in a local race
shouldn't be subsumed to terrorism. Now I'm blasted for suggesting that,
nevertheless, it's one valid issue. I guess it doesn't pay to be
open-minded (or nuanced).
Anyway, Molly has it wrong. I did not ask for RT's defense plan. Here's
what I really wrote yesterday:
>I do think RT should answer the question (here): why put a new person
in charge
>when serious security threats seem to demand experienced leadership at
all levels?
>Or...why should Minneapolitans concerned about local preparedness
against terrorists
>(and spin-off effects on the economy, etc.) vote for you?
Notice: NOT asking for a plan. I'm asking RT to 1) discuss whether
terrorism has made mayoral experience a more valid issue and 2) given
that he has less mayoral experience, why should voters concerned about a
coordinated city terrorism response vote for him?
I don't think these are insane questions. It's just another aspect of
the experience discussion that permeates this campaign.
And, by the way, I don't want to fax any plans to bin Laden - but he'd
surely be laughing at the utter hysteria with which we seem to attack
each other's viewpoints lately. Can we make sure there are Valiums in
the city's emergency supplies?
