Here in NE, I have seen a snow owl,( it was mostly white so I think snow owl, correct me if I'm wrong) in the tree behind my house, another owl on another occasion... I saw a turkey vulture fly over the house. Hawks of some sort though not many this year.....years before the reroute protest a man I know would come down to the four trees and watch the hawks collecting dinner, not any more....more on this later. I was walking through the bf nelson site, on my through Nicollet Island when I heard the crows, I looked up to see a hawk, mostly white and grey...I am not a birder at all but I do like watching. He or she ended up swooping down from the roost just past me by about 15 feet...very exciting. And yes, crows let outsiders know they don't belong... they chased him down the river. I have seen some pretty big raccoons around the neighborhood and the crows don't like them either. The otherwise is the rancor of the list in recent time...posts like the ones from M A are the exception and not the rule, but it ends up encouraging others to post before they think. I just watched a special on the Landmark Center of St. Paul. There were the usually words, that we should preserve these things for future generations. It spoke about the Metropolitan Building of Mpls, how the decision to demolish was slipped through by the city council and only when it was too late did the general public know of it's demise. The Mayor of this fine city and SOME of it's council people along with SOME park board members acted in a similar fashion when it came to highway 55. In the midst of a housing shortage they allowed seven houses to be torn down, when they could have easily been moved to any of the empty lots in the city. When they cut the four trees down, it was a peace offering. In the future, when water will be a commodity, there was no leadership on preserving coldwater spring, a spring that could keep Mpls in water if terrorists attacked our regular water supply. Unlikely but,....... When many archeologists and Native American elders spoke about camp coldwater, the four trees and the significance of the whole, being Minnehaha falls, the oak Savannah, the trees and water, not to mention the history and all we get is the cold shoulder we need new leadership!!!!! from the park board to the Mayor!!!! And that's one issue, not to mention countless flubs, misteps, snafus, and dare I say corruption..... The problem is we can save buildings like the Shubert, but trees...well, we as a community, we haven't been able to wrap our minds around that concept yet, but I hope in the future we can. I at least want a fair shake, I don't believe we even got that, and so as I saw the signs supporting people like the Mayor or Cherryhomes or Campbell, in the union building on Central and University, it seems very surreal to me, who are these people, it's really a failure that these people are considered DFL. I wonder if it's me, is it so much to ask...do union people know what happened on the streets of Mpls in 1934, do they care? What are they willing to sacrifice? I want to encourage Passionate, Thoughtful, and Respectful dialogue. But at some point I do what the powers that be to stop destroying this City. I want to thank David for the tireless effort this must be. Thanks, I'll get off the soabox now. It has been an empowering thing for me to put words out there, to know that some of those insiders might get a whiff of those winds coming in November. Bundle up. many crows, aka Robert Yorga The hell of the northeast _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
