I've also trieded cayenne pepper (have groud peper in a paper bage and place bulbs in and shake around to get it all over the bulb) or placing mothballs in the hole next to the bulb. And old nylons again laid across - some kind of small holed netting (cheese cloth). And I never know which solution works which year. In my backyard off Hiawatha avenue I have had racoons, rabbits, the squirrels - the gambit - that like to eat things and wreak havoc whenever possible.
