After the Sept. 11 Primary I went on a little R&R and came back with a
horrendous cold (not good for my immune system) and am just getting backing
my "sea legs". But I wanted to commented on several items:

First, David Brauer wrote on Sept. 16th:
"6th Ward candidate Dean Kallenbach has been linked to the
Sharon/Cherryhomes camp (mostly through Rick Stafford on Sharon's
side)...yet Sharon won the 6th and Dean finished second (pending
recount). Had Dean held Sharon's votes he would have won the 6th in a
walk."

R.S. responds: The Kallenbach camp has been linked to the
Sharon/Cherryhomes camp correctly as they both helped Dean at the endorsing
convention and during door knocks and lit drops. But, Dean was also helped
at the endorsing convention and since by Lisa Goodman--hardly a member of
the S/C camp. My linkage to Sharon's side was aptly cited, as I am a
30-year friend of the Mayor and I serve as one of her co-chairs of the
campaign. It was a pleasant surprise to find the Mayor finishing ahead of
all candidates in the Sixth Ward. Dean has always been clear about his
support for Sharon during this campaign and will continue to support her.
But our campaign offered to drop campaign literature for mayoral campaigns
of R.T. Rybek, Lisa McDonald and Sharon. Only Sharon took up our offer. We
continue that offer to Rybek and Sharon as we proceed to the General, since
there is no DFL endorsement. Dean's campaign has both RT and Sharon
supporters working hard. My analysis of Dean holding the Sharon vote: we
had two excellent African American candidates in the Sixth Ward primary
contest. I believe many African Americans in the Sixth supported a member
of their community.

Finally, I want to thank all of the Pre-Primary predictors for their
inaccurate analysis of the vote in the Sixth Ward council race. Our
analysis was almost right on the mark. We believed that Zimmerman would
come through the Primary because of the high percentage vote Nader received
in the Sixth in the 2000 election. We had thought that the contest was then
between Kallenbach and Lickness. Here we were off in the strength of
support that Shada Buyobe Hammond received instead. But then, the second
place finish found the three within a total of 66 votes. A couple of
posters have reviewed the results, including interloper Markus who continues
to judge the Sixth Ward race on my participation for one candidate, instead
of judging the candidate on his efforts and positions taken. Markus and a
couple others have declared "Z" the winner in November. I would like to
remind him and others that over 1,800 voters marked the spot for a "DFL"
candidate versus the 700 vote the Green Party candidate. Only 110 votes
separated the two Deans. The Kallenbach team job will be to hold as many of
the "DFL" voters as possible. I believe we will do that, especially since
our phone banking since the primary is showing we will.

Back to door knocking and phone banking!
