It is my understanding that, not only does the Minnesota Orchestra start off
the first concert of every season with the Star Spangled Banner, the St.
Paul Chamber Orchestra does as well. The Minnesota Orchestra plays it for
each of their first concerts, both at Orchestra Hall and other venues, not
just the Wednesday night.

It meant something different this time, but the playing of it was the usual
thing. It just happened that the first concert of the season coincided with
the immediate aftermath of the attacks.
