Service Employees Union Endorses Sayles Belton for Re-election

Minneapolis, MN (Oct. 3, 2001) � The State Council of the Service Employees 
International Union (SEIU) today announced their endorsement of Mayor Sharon 
Sayles Belton for re-election. The union represents over 5,000 workers in 
Minneapolis such as school bus drivers, cooks, custodians, nursing home and 
hospital workers, window washers and janitors.
        �Sharon Sayles Belton has proven to be the kind of mayor who can bring 
together the diverse population in Minneapolis and those represented in our 
membership,� said Jan Cuccia, president of the SEIU state council.  �Under 
Sharon�s leadership, the working people of Minneapolis have seen 
improvements in economic opportunities, job advancement and public safety.  
We believe Sharon�s vision of bringing communities together will ensure the 
future success for Minneapolis,� she added.
        �I am proud to receive this endorsement. The people SEIU represents�the 
school bus drivers, custodians, teaching assistants, secretaries and nursing 
home workers�are truly the hard working core of our service economy,� said 
Sayles Belton.
