Andy:

This is in reference to your comments about Carole and
Dick Faricy, Dick Murphy Etc.

Carole Murphy Faricy's sister would be my cousin.

As far as my cousins go I don't believe any were ever
married to a McNeeley but then I may be wrong.

Aside from that I think the whole tone of your post is
disgusting classist shit.

What is it about people in these cities who begrudge
people the honest fruits of their labor?

My family and all my relations helped build the cities
of Minneapolis and St.Paul and I am damn proud of it.

And if you care to know, my great-granfather owned a
tavern on Jackson Street near Oakland Cemetary where
all the Northern Pacific workers drank.

Carole's grandfather was a butcher in St. Paul.

He was also an alderman in the city of St.Paul at the
turn of the century during the administration of
O'Connor and was known as a generous and fair man who
looked out for those among the population who were
persecuted and discriminated against.

As head of the Public Works committee, I suspect he
was responsible for the beautiful streets of that city
that our blowhard self-indulgent idiotic infantile
Governor cannot find his way around on.

And the sons and daughters went on to build businesses
where people worked for good Union wages.

Our families came to this country in steerage, victims
of British genocidal treatment of the Irish during the
Great Hunger.

Yet you make my family sound shameful. This is typical
of the rhetoric I hear coming from the Rybak camp.

You talk as though it is a sin to work hard and make
money, to be a mover and shaker and be influential yet
that is all that R.T. Rybak talks about doing. He is
the 'King of Schmooze'.

And supporters like Joe Barisonzi, Gene Martinez, Ken
Bradley, Russell Peterson: What do they want? They
want influence. They want to push their agenda that
fosters their beliefs.

The only difference is the cast of characters.

You guys want to be the good guys and everyone else is
venal.

Before you put all your bucks on R.T. you might think
about the fact that here is a guy who worked in very
establishment organizations. He is anything but an
outsider and yet he would have us believe otherwise.

So what if he has not held office? As they used to say
in the underworld: "he's mobbed up."

Here is a person who said "I know where the bodies are
buried(at City Hall)and I'm not one of them" and yet
to my knowledge he has never unearthed one skeleton
for the public to look at.

We hear from our President about making no distinction
between terrorists and nations that succor them. Well,
what R.T. says sounds like aiding and abetting to me.

But now he's this great Reformer who will throw open
the doors of City Hall. Give me a break!

Here is a person who apparently lost his positon as a
development reporter at the local daily because of a
conflict of interest as perceived by his close mouthed
bosses.

Here is a person with an almost slavish desire to be
"someone". What bargains will be struck to achieve
that I wonder?

I find it amazing that more people on this forum did
not make an issue of the fact that R.T. had all his
supporters running around the floor of the Augsburg
Gymnasium during the DFL city convention carrying
little Target logos only to have it revealed later
that he was a consultant to Target.

His excuses around that were totally lame. The classic
line that "that deal could have been done for a lot
less" still presumes he would have done the deal. Did
you ever think of that?

Tell me he won't be doing deals with developers. Oh
that's right, he "knows when to put down the pen and
pick up the phone".

Why do I feel like I'm being sold a car? A Yugo at
that!

As to the stadium I no longer know what to think about
R.T.

In the MPR show moderated by Gary Eichten earlier this
week R.T. did not give his stock response. He said
something like "they have a site(for the stadium)and I
think it is a good one".

I was totally confused and listening to it a second
time did not help.

It seemed to me the way he said it that he agreed with
the site selection of the C-17 committee.

At any rate this will be interesting to watch. Paul
Ostrow as you know and as was related in the Strib
today favors a baseball stadium site behind Butler
Square and I can see the groundwork being laid for it
right now.

As to the speculation as to whether or not R.T. will
fire the Chief or the Chief will resign, I don't know.

As to promoting a Chief from within the ranks I'm not
so sure it's always such a good idea.

I've even thought that it made sense for our country
to have a National Police Officer Corps(meaning
Captains, Lieutenants, and such) who would be required
to move from cities where they began service to other
locales in order to attack the idea of the "code of
silence" and the problems that so often arise when one
is called to discipline those with whom they have
served in the ranks.

R.T. said in one forum: "I'll be on the TV, in the
parks; You're going to get sick of seeing me."

Well I'm already sick of seeing R.T. I'm especially
sick of hearing him.

I still contend that R.T. has a nasty streak and he
crossed a real boundary when he mocked Lisa for not
hearing a question.

The Mayor may mock R.T.'s competence and estimation of
himself and say things like "this is more than just
six dudes taking over" but I know she would never mock
or take advantage of a person's physical disability.

Now I suppose I'll get all manner of nasty off-line
posts from R.T. supporters telling me how I'm voting
for the status quo, a do-nothing invisible Mayor, etc.

Or that it's just sour grapes like Lisa McDonald.

Well it ain't the staus quo I'm voting for. That's
gone folks.

No more Lisa Mc, Jim N., Dore M., Kathy T., Joan C.,
Brian H., and perhaps more.

It's a whole new ball game.

And it might just be nice to have an old hand on deck.

And it might be nice to have a Mayor who has said she
won't run again. That says to me: "All bets are off."

The Mayor has been tarred by a brush at times when we
ought to have looked more closely at Council behavior.

That is partly why the Mayor suggested the other day
on MPR that R.T. ought to have followed the Council
more closely. So he would know more of what is going
on.

But R.T. is above that. His response was "I don't want
to follow the Council, Sharon. I want to lead it."

It's that sort of cuteness that gives me pause.
