Lilligren Endorsed by Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund

The Lilligren campaign is proud to announce the Gay &
Lesbian Victory Fund's endorsement of openly-gay DFL city
council candidate Robert Lilligren in his bid for the 8th
ward council seat. To win Victory Fund support, applicants
must meet the Victory Fund's stringent criteria and
complete an exhaustive screening process to prove they are
both qualified and viable candidates.

"The eighth ward has a wonderfully diverse population base,
with many GLBT and ethnic minority residents, including
increasing numbers of new immigrants", said Lilligren,
"Anyone hoping to effectively represent our ward needs to
have a strong appreciation for diversity. I believe the
Victory Fund endorsement is a recognition of my
qualifications and commitment to be a council member who
will represent the entire ward". If elected, it is
believed that Lilligren will be the first Native American
Tribal Member (Ojibwe; White Earth) on the Minneapolis City
Council.

The Victory Fund has recently received support from top
Democratic political leaders such as Senate Majority Leader
Tom Daschle, House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt, and
Senators Edward Kennedy, who were among those attending a
recent Victory Fund function, which raised more than
$200,000. "Our country is better served-our people better
represented-when officeholders reflect the diversity of
America. That is what the Victory Fund is all about," said
Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

The Victory fund endorsement comes on the heels of a
series of labor endorsements over the past several days.
The Minnesota Teamsters, the Minneapolis Building &
Construction Trade Council, and the Central Labor Union
have also endorsed Lilligren. Additional endorsements have
come from the Sierra Club and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Supporters of Lilligren praise him for his appreciation of
the urban lifestyle, and willingness to address tough
social issues such as racial profiling.

Lilligren's positive attitude and upbeat, inclusive
campaign style clearly appeal to a wide variety of voters.
Lilligren was the front-runner in the recent 8th Ward
primary out-polling his closest competitor by almost 2 to
1.

Smart development that meets community needs & goals while
enhancing livability for residents is the key goal.
Lilligren's message emphasizes inclusive revitalization in
the ward, directed by the community input process, and
implemented through strong, prudent leadership in city
hall.

Lilligren supporters believe that the eighth ward needs
change; a fresh start to effectively address the issues
facing the ward in a manner that fosters and achieves
positive change. Lilligren's combined experience as a small
business owner and aggressive community activist provide a
unique and effective base for leadership of the diverse
interests in the 8th ward.
