This is a request for info on a neighborhood issue from any school board candidates
or members) participating in this list. Pratt School (in the Prospect Park
neighborhood) has recently reopened as a K-2 school with a promise to add a grade a
year to become a K-5. This is now (apparently) being backed off from by the East side
Board head. This school is probably unique in that it is naturally integrated both
economically and racially by virtue of its surroundings. Prospect Park was the first
(and possibly the only) community to actually solicit the proximal location of a low
income housing project. It is also a great example of a walk to school building, being
served by only one bus, eliminating extraordinary busing expenses. Particularly
irritated are families with young children who have bought homes there on the premise
of a neighborhood K-5 school. Any comments?
