I first met Minneapolis almost 4 years ago. The
U had a good graduate program in my field and I came
for a visit, trying to decide whether Minneapolis was
a place I wanted to live. Thanks to the misleading
rental car map, my Mom and I stumbled onto Minnehaha
Park and spent an enjoyable afternoon there. I
returned to Ohio with the memory of a beautiful green
city, one of the reasons I decided that Minneapolis
was the place to be.
Since moving here, I have been fortunate to meet
one of the principal stewards of our magnificent parks
system, Annie Young. As an At-Large Park Board
Commissioner, she has been a strong voice in
protecting and improving our natural gems, the parks
and waters.
Annie Young provides the following attributes to
our Park and Recreation Board:
*Citywide vision - Annie believes in equity for
community parks, understands the interconnectedness of
the waterways, and works to provide clean, accessible,
and safe park resources to all Minneapolis residents.
*Environmental wisdom - Annie is an effective advocate
for prairie restoration, reduced pesticide use and
mowing, water quality improvement, and paper use
reduction.
*Future focus - Annie recognizes the need to modify
recreation opportunities based on community needs.
She supports new leisure programming, dog parks, water
and skateboard parks, and promotion of parks along the
Mississippi River, the Midtown and Humboldt Greenways,
Bassett's Creek, and the Hollman redevelopment.
Annie has also pushed the Park Board to make use
of information technology. She is one of the few
Parks Commissioners to provide -- and use! -- her
e-mail address.
The citizens of Minneapolis deserve to have
someone with Annie's qualities representing them on
the Park Board. I have been proud to be involved with
her re-election campaign this year. I hope you will
join me in voting to re-elect Annie Young to the
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board as an At-Large
Commissioner on Tuesday, November 6!

Campaign Manager, Young for Parks
