I would like to respond to Mr. Bonham's critique of my
"unsigned, semi-grammatical" post.

Two post cards were mailed to "The Nolley Residence,"
and the other two were mailed to "the Fregni
Residence." Ellie Fregni is my partner and neither
one of us needs to be hounded by the Kallenbach
campaign about an issue that I've delt with first hand
both as a cab driver and as a worker in a shelter. As
for the subtle accusation that I'm taking mail that
belongs to other tenants, because of national events
I'm actually afraid to open the mail these days and
anyways our mailboxes are locked. Each tenant has
their own key, but Tim and the Kallenbach campaign are
spending their time attacking Zimmermann and not
educating themselves about the living conditions of
most tenants, I suppose they wouldn't know that.

The issue of prostitution is far more complex. It
will only be dealt with through compassion, by making
services abvailable to those women who want to get out
but feel they are trapped. Draconian "law and order"
policies will only drive it further in to the alleys
and reduce the quality of life. And as I've said
before, Kathy is not running for reelection.

This is meant as no disrespect to Kathy Thurber, whom
I've known since childhood and among other things has
been a solid advocate for cab drivers, but I'm
digressing.

While closing getting the sauna did improve the
neighborhoods south of Lake Street, it created many
problems north of Lake. There are more prostitutes
and drug dealers on the corners and in the parks where
children play. Kallenbach's solution, to require more
agressive policing, will only result in more racial
profiling and abuse of police power. As Dean
Zimmermann often says, the police already know who are
committing crimes, but they seem to only harass the
people who live there (Phillips.) If Dean
Kallenbach's "tough on crime" policies become reality,
I know I can expect to be harassed by the police more
often than I am now, which is already far too
frequently.

I remember that you were also appalled by Del Mar's
music on Nicollet Mall, and probably hated my sax
playing on Nicollet as well. I wonder how you feel
about the counter culture in this city.

Although I don't condone prostitution or drug dealing
(not many people do,) I find it disturbing that the
DFL is attempting to remind people that they shut down
businesses that they don't agree with. Most people
supported the Hard Times Cafe, and the over use of
Imminent Domain IS an issue in city politics. I
believe that hostility to the counter culture is also
a valid issue. Could it be that many DFL candidates
such as Kallenbach (or his handlers) are secretly
hostile to the counter culture? At least Nixon was
honest about his hostility.
