You apparently have fallen for the ruse that metal detectors, cameras and
technology provide security. They don't. I have watched a colleague walk
through a metal detector and into the federal courthouse armed and
unchallenged. I have watched a colleague open a bag full of tools and
electronic equipment before boarding a plane. Enough tools to disable the
plane and cause far more damage than a box cutter.
Security cameras are useless when the power is cut. The "new" security
measures at airports would not have prevented Sep 11. The security
measures at the Federal court house would not prevent another Timothy
McVeigh bombing.
In fact, the increased presence of trained human eyes is the best an only
effective means of spotting a likely terrorist. Bag checks would be
ineffective to stop a bomb, it would just be placed elsewhere.
Terrorism, like spying, is a game of cat and mouse and a determined mouse
will always find a way in. It's a game of mind against mind, not
technology.
