Trying to guess at people's motivations - parsing between those "hacks"
(rarely meant objectively) and "creative, principled" people is a trip
down the hall of mirrors.

The important thing, of course, is exactly what those hacks and creative
principled people DO. All the subjective verbiage attached TO people is
a sideshow - one that gets us into angry confrontations - compared to
debating their actions and effects, which is the stuff that really
matters to the future of this city.

Can you criticize the tactics of a campaign without dissing the people
as hacks? Of course you can. Can you criticize someone's candidate
analysis without labeling people "sore losers?" Yes.

It all contributes to respectful dialogue, which is central to the
mission of Minneapolis-Issues. I know people have different standards
for what's excessive and nasty, which is why I try to send out list-wide
cautions before warning people.

Please, respect these rulings, especially in the campaign's final days.
They are not meant to stifle debate but focus our discussions on things
that matter to the city rather than name-calling.

I beg to differ with Mr. Brauer apparently characterizing the phrase
"hardcore DFL hacks" as an "inflammatory label." For reasons to now be
explained, this is a substantive label which was supported by the
content of my previous post.
