For Immediate Release
DEAN Z, GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE, ENDORSED BY LICKNESS, NOLLEY, AND
PALMER
THEY RESPOND TO KALLENBACHS NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING
Contact: Jenny Heiser, Campaign Manager, 612-724-3888 or 612-558-9642
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov 2 ? In response to weeks of negative campaigning on
the
part of Dean Kallenbach, three of the former candidates from
Septembers
primary endorsed Dean (Z) Zimmermann for the 6th Wards city council
seat.
In their letter, written today, Barb Lickness, Tamir Nolley, and
Jonathan
Palmer said: Negative campaigning has been the benchmark of the Dean
Kallenbach campaign. (Dean Z) is talking about the issues facing the
Ward
and has stayed on the high road throughout. We urge you to vote for
Dean
Zimmermann.
Their response was partially fueled by a postcard residents received
from
the Minneapolis DFL Party claiming that Zimmermann, a Green-Party
candidate,
wanted to reopen the saunas along Lake Street.
I thought this issue was put to rest weeks ago, said Dean Z,
referring to
a follow-up letter that he sent to the Whittier Globe, a neighborhood
newspaper.
His campaign manager, Jenny Heiser: Dean Zs opponent understands
that
Zimmermann has strong support among the wards residents. They are
impressed
by Dean Zs 40-plus years of experience improving peoples lives and
the
health of our planet. Simply put, Kallenbach has been trying to make
political hay out of Zimmermanns statements.
Zimmermann went on to say, I will not be sidetracked from the
pressing
issues facing the residents of Ward Six and the rest of Minneapolis.
Among
other things, our citizens need low-cost housing, police
accountability, and
a sound energy policy. Its time to say goodbye to politics-as-usual,
and
hello to the politics of joy and justice.

editors may call 612-724-3888 or 612-558-9642.

ENDORSE
Dean Zimmermann
for City Council-6th Ward
Dear Sixth Ward Voter,
The recent literature distributed by the Dean Kallenbach campaign
regarding
his opponent Dean Zimmermann and his alleged "support of saunas on
Lake
Street" has turned the 6th Ward City Council campaign in a very
negative
direction. Dean Zimmerman has reported the full story regarding this
issue
at length on both Minneapolis Issues and the Whittier One List and on
www.zimmerperson.org. However, the Kallenbach campaign continues to
use
these statements taken out of context to attack Dean Zimmermann.
Negative campaigning has been the benchmark of the Dean Kallenbach
campaign
from the beginning. Dean's campaign launched many negative campaign
attacks
toward his opponents during the primary and has now focused these
negative
campaigning tactics on Dean Zimmermann. Attacking your opponents and
engaging
in negative whisper campaign is a sign of a very weak candidate.
This type of "Enquirer" campaigning is an insult to voters and takes
the
focus away from many important issues facing the sixth ward. The
people of
the sixth ward deserve better than that.
Dean Zimmermann is running a positive campaign focused on his
long-term
record of activism on both political and environmental fronts. He is
talking
about the issues facing the sixth ward and has stayed on the high road
throughout the course of this campaign. That is the kind of person the
sixth
ward needs to represent us at City Hall.
We urge you to do the right thing for the sixth ward on November 6,
2001. We
urge you to vote for Dean Zimmerman for City Council.
