After reading all the posts about which party won how many seats, I felt I must write to clear up the perception that RT Rybak was a DFL candidate for mayor. You'll have to put his win in the Independent column - at least that is what a piece of literature delivered to my doorstep on November 10 implied. Nice picture of RT at the top along with Lane, Shapiro, Forney and Holmann (all Independent or nonaffliated candidates) and a tag line of Your Partnership for a New Minneapolis! Imagine my surprise - here I thought we had two DFL candidates running for mayor. I must have missed the conversion while I was out delivering literature, making phone calls and doing all that other political hack stuff during the campaign. This is especially weird for me since I was a Rybak delegate at the city convention and I could have sworn I was at a DFL convention. Too bad, I would have liked to maintain a DFL mayor for Minneapolis as well as gaining one for St. Paul not just because I am blindly loyal to an old, outdated party but because I really support the platform of the DFL and would prefer to have governing officials who do also.
Oh, well, we live to fight another day. But it will be harder to fool me the next time around.
