In the fifth ward race, there WERE ugly personal attacks and rumors passed
around about Cherryhomes. I went to one of the property rights meetings --
a number of candidates were there -- including Natalie Johnson Lee. During
that meeting someone made a comment about Al Garcia -- and someone else
made the comment that Cherryhomes slept with him. Johnson Lee did not
encourage those comments -- but clearly rumors like those were being passed
around. There was also the reference to Cherryhomes African American
supporters as "house negros" at a Lucille's Kitchen forum. That's ugly
racial demogogery -- and is insulting to both candidates.

I'm not a big fan of Cherryhomes -- partly because of the way she got so
involved in both the Stonewall endorsing process for the 6th ward -- as
well as the 6th Ward DFL endorsement going for Kallenbach. I also did not
appreciate her interference in the 8th ward race -- which she quickly
backed down on.

However I don't like whisper campaigns about candidates and who they are
sleeping with -- or folks saying someone who is African American who
supports a non-African American candidate against an African American
candidate is a sellout or a house negro.
