Thought I'd throw out a question to y'all. I figure that I can get a
great answer with all the city hall and neighborhood organizing
experience that I have read on this list!

A couple of neighbors of ours stopped by this weekend to inform us about
a proposal to merge the "North Longfellow" neighborhood with Seward.
(North Longfellow being bounded by Lake Street, the Railroad tracks on
27th st., 27th Ave, and 38th Ave). Essentially, it would allow the
residents of North Longfellow to vote to be affiliated with the Seward
Neighborhood Assn rather than the Longfellow Community Council.

For me, LCC has done a great job in my short time living in Longfellow.
But, with NRP drying up, Seward does have a much more flexible Community
Development Corporation that does not depend on NRP for funds. More of
a revolving loan fund model.

While I am skeptical of these kinds of changes, I am also intested in
learning more about the proposal and would love to see the residents
affected get a vote in the process. I understand that the city council
has adopted rules to provide for such reorganizations, and that other
mergers of neighborhoods have occured in the city.

Does anyone know more about either this proposal, its pluses and
minuses? Does anyone know if this has happened in different areas of
Minneapolis, or is this the first??

Thanks!

Adam Sokolski
North Longfellow
