Thanks for the input and thoughts on Billy Graham leaving Loring Park.

With regard to the following post:

As a follow-up to their announcement, our understanding is that their move
has been in the works for a couple of years and had nothing to do with the
historic designation. They were indeed involved in the planning phases and
meetings about the Historic area. They also hired their own consultant who
researched and prepared a HPC study which countered the study completed by
HPC and proposed that their area not be included in the designation, that a
better fit would be to only include the Fawkes block.

The announcement was a shock to us. They never mentioned at any of these
meetings that they were considering moving. I was actually at a table of
Billy Graham representatives for the Loring Business Association meeting for
2 hours that day and they never said a word, only to turn on the news that
evening and hear the announcement on the news that evening.

Though, it is very sad to see them leave, and to see the loss of
jobs...hopefully, through good community input and the efforts of
Councilmember Goodman, we will get great commercial opportunities and jobs
in those buildings, as well as facade improvements creating a pedestrian
friendly and active environment.

Thanks for the emails. - jana metge/clpc

I suppose the relocation of the Bill Graham Assn. was inevitable. However,
it is disturbing when Minneapolis loses an employer of 400+ people.
According to the article in the paper, it would appear that the historic
designation prompted them to move earlier than they expected. I would be
curious to know if the Loring people had any idea that their designation
request would lead to the loss of this employer? Were they are part of the
decision process?
