On a related note, isn't the education gap really predicated upon the INCOME gap? Numerous studies tell us that poor kids move more, have a higher rate of homelessness, have less opportunity, more instability, poorer nutrition, poorer prenatal care, and the list goes on. Wouldn't these factors directly relate to poorer performance? It sure seems interrelated or that you can't expect improvement on the one hand i.e. education performance without actively seeking to improve or to change the other i.e. affordable housing, better job and educational opportunities. I think an inclusive effort is needed to close what is turning out to be just ONE gap essentially - just a really BIG one.
