Tonight( Nov. 28) the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Commissioners can make history and leave an incredible legacy to future generations. They can say, yes the Riverview Supper Club site is a key development piece for the future of the upper river and we would like to buy it. I believe that there is funding to buy the whole site, in fact, from what I understand, the funding available is for the whole site only. So the MPRB would have more trouble finding funds for the partial strip offered by Mr. Baylor.
In the Master Plan for the Upper River there are better places for the kind of housing density that would occur on the riverview site. The intent is good but there are better locations, maybe the paint site is a possibility.
If we had the leadership of Theodore Wirth or the vision of Horace Cleveland this site would be acquired as park land.
Thanks, Scott Vreeland, Seward, by the River Gorge of the Great Mississippi River, where we have parkland next to the river.
