I have to disagree with the posters that feel that Barb Johnson's bid for City Council President somehow takes precedent over the needs of her ward.
The City Council President is a very powerful position in this city. This position names the committee chairs for all the City Council Committee and wields tremendous power in the decisions that the council ends up making. I believe the City Council President chairs the executive committee where all the decisions are made regarding heads, etc. This position would be a very powerful tool for Barb in getting things done for the people of the 4th ward. Whether Barb wins this position or not, you have to give her credit for trying for it. I am not making a statement in support of or against Barb Johnson for City Council President. That decision is up to the council. The bidding for that title is being negotiated as we speak by all the newly elected city council people as well as the returning ones. One thing is for sure, when the bidding is over a new council president will emerge. I simply wanted to make a point that having a council member who is also the City Council President does not "get in the way" of them doing their job. It enhances their ability to do their job. It is quite a coveted position and one many council members would LOVE to have. Barb Lickness Whittier __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
