Mr. Brauer is incorrect in the following statement: > In June 1999, the council voted on its most important recent stadium > resolution. The resolution called for a city partnership with Hennepin > County that would pay for a new downtown stadium and a host of other > sports and non-sports projects through a half-cent countywide sales tax.
The resolution that the City voted for never said anything of this sort. It did not:: 1) call for a city/county partnership 2) call for a county-wide sales tax The resolution adopted by the City Council never said one word about a partnership or about a half-cent sales tax. The resolution adopted by the City Council simply said the City was directing staff to sit down with County staff and develop options. It endorsed no plan. It is not surprising to me that Mr. Brauer believes the statement that he just made because there was a group of individuals who got together who put together a list of mistruths, including this one, and then repeated them using multiple venues until people believed them. Doing so is a violation of campagin law. I have been supoenaed by a Grand Jury to testify in an investigation of this matter. If persons are found guilty, they can be convicted of a gross misdemeanor and a candidate who benefitted could lose their election certifciate.
